Primal Fear have been a major force in the European rock and metal scene for almost 20 years and the band members are involved in numerous other projects as well. The band releases their 11th studio album “Rulebreaker” through Frontiers Records on 29th January. Bass player Mat Sinner is a guest on the Friday NI Rocks Show broadcast on the same date and we chat about the new album as well as playing three tracks from it - http://www.rockradioni.co.uk/interviews/2460-ni-rocks-interview-with-mat-sinner-primal-fear-sinner-etc.html

Primal Fear was formed back in 1997 by Sinner and vocalist Ralf Scheepers and they have remained with the band ever since. Original guitarist Tom Naumann rejoined the band for his third spell in 2013 and “Rulebreaker” features three guitarists as Naumann joins Alex Beyrodt and Magnus Karlsson (who also plays keyboards). The new drummer is Francesco Jovino.

Mat Sinner has been involved with many other projects, including his own band Sinner, as well as Voodoo Circle (along with Beyrodt and Jovino), Level 10, Kiske/Somerville (along with Karlsson) and the Rock Meets Classic Tour (with the Sinner band). I posted a recommendation for the second album from Magnus Karlsson’s Free Fall back in November. Scheepers has also released his own solo material as well as guesting on many albums, including the Rage of Angels album in 2013.

There are 11 tracks on the new album. We played “The End Is Near”, “Angels of Mercy” and “Rulebreaker” alongside the interview with Mat on the Friday NI Rocks Show. Other personal favourites would include “Bullets & Tears”, the more melodic / ballad-like track “The Sky Is Burning” and “Raving Mad”.

Primal Fear head out on tour through Europe, North America and Japan between February and June; but unfortunately no UK dates again!

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
