English band Knock Out Kaine released a new EP entitled “Cruel Britannia” through Rocksector Records on 4th April. I’ve previously posted recommendations for the two albums they’ve released – in 2012 and 2015 – and have played quite a few tracks by the band on the NI Rocks Show over the last few years; so it was a fairly safe bet that I’d like the new EP. I played the title track “Cruel Britannia” on the Friday NI Rocks Show broadcast on 8th April.

There are four tracks on the new EP – “Cruel Britannia”, “Love The Way You Hate”, “Going Down” and a cover of Steve Earle’s “Copperhead Head”. “Going Down” is a revamped version of the track that first appeared on the band’s debut album “House of Sins”. The danger of covering tracks like “Copperhead Road” is that people will say it’s not as good because it doesn’t sound exactly the same as the original. For me, ideally a good cover should involve putting your own twist on it without losing the feel of the song. In my opinion, Knock Out Kaine have managed to do that with “Copperhead Road”, though no doubt others will disagree.

Knock Out Kaine are Dean Foxx on vocals, Jimmy Bohemian on guitar, Lee Byrne on bass and Danny Krash on drums.

The recommendation for the band’s most recent album – “Rise of the Electric Jester”, released through Rocksector Records in March 2015 – can be found here - http://www.rockradioni.co.uk/back-stage/music-reviews/1836-ni-rocks-recommends-qrise-of-the-electric-jesterq-by-knock-out-kaine.html

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
