“Dying Breed” is the sixth album from French band BlackRain and it was released on 13th September by Steamhammer / SPV. The band traces its origins back to 2001, but their first album was released in 2006 and they actually only came to my attention with the release of their previous album “Released” in 2016. The track “Hellfire” was included on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 30th August, followed by “Dying Breed” on 13th September.

Singer and guitarist Swan Hellion formed BlackRain in 2001 along with guitarist Max 2. Both had previously performed in cover bands around Haute-Savoie in France. It took them a few years to get a stable line-up together with bass player Mat joining in 2003 and drummer Frank F in 2010. Their self-titled debut was released in 2006 and their second album “Licence to Thrill” was recorded in Sweden and released in 2008.

BlackRain’s third album “Lethal Dose of..” was released in 2011 and the following year the band participated in a French talent show, finishing fourth, but further increasing their profile in Europe. The album “It Begins” was then released in 2013. They were included on the Download roster following the release of “Released” on the UDR Music label in 2016.

BlackRain will be touring with Kissin Dynamite during October and November, playing The Underworld in London on 18th Oct.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!
