Norwegian band Humbucker release their second album entitled “King of the World” on 10th April. I often refer to my preferred musical genre as “classic rock”, though I’m not totally sure what that really means (and I hate categorising bands!). I certainly don’t confine the description to bands from the 70s or 80s! There are a lot of “new” young (and not so young) bands that play a style of music that just epitomises what “classic rock” means to me. Humbucker are a great example of one of those bands.

Humbucker initially formed in 1998 but parted ways in 2002. It wasn’t until they reformed in 2010 that work started on a debut album and this was released in 2011, entitled “R.O.C.K.S”. That album received some great reviews and the band are now unleashing their second offering “King of the World”. Favourite tracks for me are “One Size Fits All”, the title track “King of the World”, the ballad “Dirty Nelly”, “Hey You!” and “Strongman”. To be honest there isn’t a track amongst the 12 on the album that could be called a filler! They’ve even managed to pull-off a quality cover of Whitesnake’s “Wine Women & Song” which is never easy!

Humbucker is Jan Anders Boen on vocals, Lars Stian Havraas on bass, John Petter Pershag & Vidar Svanheld on guitars and Geir Arne Dale on drums.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

I'm not a reviewer and I certainly don’t claim to be a journalist, but I wanted to acknowledge some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI by artists, promoters and labels. That was the simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends”. To be honest I’m not really a big fan of the whole idea of “Reviews” as they just represent one person’s opinion!!  So I'm not giving marks or ratings, trying to categorise bands or compare artists. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
