Maps to the Hollywood Scars is a project that features former American Idol contestant James Durbin and Quiet Riot guitarist Alex Grossi. They released an EP simply entitled “Volume One” on 17th February, just a matter of weeks before it was revealed that Durbin would be taking over the lead vocalist position in Quiet Riot. I played the track “Till Death” on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 24th February.

Durbin had performed in a band called Hollywood Scars prior to appearing in Season 10 of the ‘American Idol’ in 2011, finishing in fourth place. That band had been influenced by the music of Hollywood’s Sunset Strip from the 80’s and 90’s. Durbin performed a number of rock classics during his run on ‘American Idol’ and in the finale performed 2 tracks alongside Judas Priest. He subsequently released three solo albums between 2011 and 2016.

Alex Grossi has been a member of Quiet Riot since 2004, but has also performed with numerous other bands and artists over the years. He and Durbin have collaborated to form Maps To the Hollywood Scars and released a 5 track EP that showcases the darker side of Hollywood and the music industry. There had been plans for a “Volume 2” in the near future, but it’s possible this might be delayed as it has been confirmed that Durbin will be re-recording the vocals for a new Quiet Riot album.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check someth    ing out, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
