When I posted a recommendation for Magnum’s previous album “On The 13th Day” back in August 2012 I was a new convert to the band, having not really taken much time to check them out properly over the preceding 30 years!  This time around I was quite keen to get listening to “Escape From The Shadow Garden” when it came into Rock Radio NI ahead of its release through Steamhammer / SPV on 24th March. And, in my humble opinion, the latest album is even better than the previous one.

Magnum of course have been releasing albums since the late 70’s and have legions of dedicated fans who’ll instantly purchase the latest offering; which also comes as a limited edition CD with DVD of live footage and as a  blue marbled vinyl double LP. However, if like myself you haven’t been a Magnum fan over the years for whatever reason, I still recommend that you give “Escape From The Shadow Garden” a listen. If your musical roots are, like mine, buried in the “classic rock” genre then you’ll find a lot to like.

Personal favourites for me include “Live Til You Die”, “Unwritten Sacrifice”, “Too Many Clowns” and “Burning River”.

Magnum are Tony Clarkin on guitar, Bob Catley on vocals, Mark Stanway on keyboards, Al Barrow on bass and Harry James on drums. They will be touring extensively through the UK and Europe during April and May 2014.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

I'm not a reviewer and I certainly don’t claim to be a journalist, but I wanted to acknowledge some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI by artists, promoters and labels. That was the simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends”. To be honest I’m not really a big fan of the whole idea of “Reviews” as they just represent one person’s opinion!!  So I'm not giving marks or ratings, trying to categorise bands or compare artists. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
