If you like your rock bands a tad sleazy and bluesy and 100% kick-ass rock n roll, then chances are that you’re either already a Kickin Valentina fan or that you will be once you check out their new album “Super Atomic”. The band formed in Atlanta in 2013 and that same year, released a self-titled 5 track EP which I’ve played tracks from for the past couple of years. Now signed to Mighty Music in Denmark, Kickin Valentina release their debut album “Super Atomic” on 6th November.

Following a short intro, there are 10 full length tracks on the album and they’re all no-nonsense, in your face rock n roll tunes. Four of these come off the earlier EP, and are amongst my favourites – “Get Ready”, “Alone”, “Anita” and “Dirty Girl”. I played “On My Side” on the Friday NI Rocks Show recently and the first single from the album, “Wrong Way”, was a Classic Rock track of the week.

Kickin Valentina are Joe Edwards on Vocals, Heber Pampillon on guitars, Chris Taylor on bass and Jimmy Berdine on drums. The band have played a number of festivals in the USA and toured or opened for artists such as Buckcherry, Queensryche, Skid Row, Kix and LA Guns.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
