“Kingdom of Rock” is the second album from Magnus Karlsson’s Free Fall and it was released on 6th November through Frontiers Records. Magnus Karlsson will be familiar to some as the guitarist in Primal Fear or for his involvement in projects such as the first three Allen/Lande albums and the Kiske/Somerville albums. His first “solo” album “Free Fall” was released in 2013 and, like the new album, it featured a host of guest vocalists. “Kingdom of Rock” includes guest appearances from Tony Harnell (Skid Row), Jorn Lande, Joe Lynn Turner, Tony Martin (Black Sabbath) and Harry Hess (Harem Scarem) etc.

There are 11 tracks on “Kingdom of Rock” with 10 different vocalists, including Magnus Karlsson himself, who sings on two of the tracks. “Out of the Dark” featuring Jakob Samuel from The Poodles on vocals is included on the Friday NI Rocks Show this week. Other favourites include the title track “Kingdom of Rock” with Jorn Lande on vocals, “When the Sky Falls” featuring Tony Martin, “Angel of the Night” with David Readman (Voodoo Cirlce) and “Walk This Road Alone” which is one of the tracks that Karlsson himself sings on.

Karlsson not only plays all the guitars and sings two songs on the album; he also provides the bass and keyboards. Jaime Salazar was brought in to record the drums.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
