“The Atlantic” is the latest studio album from Swedish band Evergrey and it was released on 25th January through AFM records. The album is the final part of a trilogy about the adventure of life that commenced with “Hymns for the Broken” in 2014 and continued with “The Storm Within” in 2016. It is the bands eleventh studio album since forming in 1995. The track “A Silent Arc” was included on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 18th January.

Evergrey formed in Gothenburg in 1995 and released their debut album “The Dark Discovery” in 1998. They’ve been releasing studio albums at fairly regular intervals ever since, as well as a live album in 2005 and a compilation album in 2011.

Singer / guitarist Tom S. Englund is the only founding member of the band remaining. The other current members of the band are guitarist Henrik Danhage (joined 2000), keyboard player Rikard Zander (joined 2002), drummer Jonas Ekdahl (joined 2003) and bass player Johan Niemann (joined 2010). Danhage and Ekdahl had actually left the band in 2010, but both returned in 2014.

Englund has said that the trilogy “is about events and experiences in our lives. It’s about relationships, beauty and darkness, about fortune and grief, about love, hate, despair, joy and everything connected with it. Life is like a journey across the ocean, on the way to distant shores”. He describes “The Atlantic” as “probably our most complex and progressive release so far and it includes all the elements that our fans love.”

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!
