“Hannah Wicklund & The Steppin’ Stones” is the self-titled, third album from South Carolina singer-guitarist Hannah Wicklund and her band. It was actually released in the USA last year, but was released in the UK on 13th September by Strawberry Moon Records. I hadn’t actually heard of her until we got the press release from Noble PR, but instantly liked what I heard when I checked out the album. The track “Bomb Through The Breeze” was included on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 9th August, followed by “Ghost” on 20th September.

Hannah Wicklund is a 22 year-old guitarist and singer who according to the biography on her website formed her own band when just eight years old (in 2005). By the time she was thirteen she had played a show for AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson and shared stages with bands such as Jefferson Starship. The band had played over a thousand shows by the time Hannh graduated high school at age sixteen (in 2013).

A six track EP called “Handle Me” was released in 2013, followed by the debut album “Looking Glass” in 2014 and the second album “The Steppin Stones” in 2015. Hannah received increasing praise for her guitar playing and the band toured Europe in 2017 before releasing their new album “Hannah Wicklund & The Steppin’ Stones” in the USA in January 2018.

Hannah Wicklund & The Steppin’ Stones were special guests on Joe Bonamassa’s ‘Keeping The Blues Alive At Sea’ cruise in August and will be joining Gorilla Riot and Piston on Planet Rock’s ‘Roadstars’ tour in England during October.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!
