“Line of Fire” is the third album from First Signal, the band fronted by Canadian singer Harry Hess, and it was released by Frontiers Music on 17th May. More of a musical project than a band really, First Signal was formed to deliver an album similar in sound to Hess’s band Harem Scarem. The line-up has changed on each album, with the exception of Hess himself. Nevertheless they deliver what they set out to do each time! The track “Born To Be A Rebel” was included on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 12th April and then “A Million Miles” on the Show on 7th June.

On 24th May Escape Music released “Fire and Grace”, the latest album from American band Alliance. The band features guitarist Gary Pihl (from Boston, the Sammy Hagar Band etc), drummer David Lauser (from the Sammy Hagar Band) and Robert Berry (from 3, GTR, 3.2 etc). Escape Music boss Khalil Turk gave me an opportunity to interview Gary or Robert and I jumped at the chance to record something with both of them individually.  Both interviews can be heard on the Friday NI Rocks Show for 14th June. This is available from the NI Rocks MixCloud page - https://www.mixcloud.com/NIRocks/interviews-with-gary-pihl-and-robert-berry-from-alliance-on-the-friday-ni-rocks-show-14th-june-2019/ .

Gary and Robert both chat about the history of Alliance, going back to the mid 90’s, and about the new album. Each picked three tracks from the album to play alongside the interviews.

The track “The Wheel” was featured on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 3rd May followed by “Real Thing” on 31st May.

“Forever Wild” is the sixth studio album from Swedish band Crazy Lixx and it was released via Frontiers Music on 17th May. I’ve been a fan of the band since their second album in 2010, but this is probably their best album so far. Definitely up there amongst the best releases of the year so far. Singer Danny Rexon was my guest on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 24th May to chat about the new album. We also played four tracks from “Forever Wild”. The singles “Wicked”, “Break Out” and “Silent Thunder” had all been played on previous Shows as well.

Given how often I’ve played tracks from this album over the past few weeks it’s doubtful that I need to post a recommendation to state how good I think it is! On the other hand, it seems only fair that I should. Local rockers Gasoline Outlaws officially released their second album “Light Up The World” on 10th May. However, despite the band being one of many to be badly impacted by the financial mishandling at Pledgemusic, those who had pledged (like myself) received a download of the album back in February. In the fifteen weeks since then I’ve played five of the ten tracks from the album a total of eight times on the Friday NI Rocks Show. Basically, the band has been on the Show every other week, if not every week!

Something a little different! When I hear the name Luke Appleton, I think bass player for Iced Earth and guitarist for Absolva – acoustic guitarist doesn’t naturally spring to mind. However he has proven adept at that genre too – as has his brother Chris previously! Last year Luke released the acoustic EP “How Does It Feel To Be Alive” and on 26th April Rocksector Records released the album “Snake Eyes”. The album is acoustic-based as there is also some electric guitar on there too. I played the track “Inside Out” on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 19th April.
